Step back in time,
Luggate Shanty Town
Tucked in behind the historic Luggate Hotel is a little “shanty town” of themed cabins – a quirky cluster of rooms that feel a bit like a movie set and a classic Kiwi road-trip stop rolled into one. Newly built but styled with plenty of character, they’re a fun alternative to standard motel units and a great way to stay close to the action at the pub and garden bar.
The cabins sit just behind the Luggate Hotel garden bar, one of the region’s long-standing country pubs and a true Central Otago landmark.
You’re only a few steps from the main bar, dining room and outdoor area – ideal if you’re here for a gig, catching up with friends or just want to wander “home” after dinner.
A one-of-a-kind Speight’s bar from the famous Great Beer Delivery campaign adds to the story, and the cabins continue that theme with their own curated displays and décor.
Each cabin has its own look and feel, with themed displays that match the room – more like staying in a tiny set than a plain box. Guests are asked to enjoy the displays but not handle them, so everything stays looking sharp for the next visitors.
Sleeps up to 2 guests per cabin
Bed can be made up as one king or two singles
Cosy interior with TV and air conditioning
Private patio or small outdoor seating area on most cabins
It’s simple, comfortable and ideal for a night or two after exploring Wānaka or enjoying a night at the pub.
The cabins are set up a bit like a modern camp ground-meets-country-pub experience:
Shared bathrooms – clean toilet and shower facilities just a short walk from your cabin
Free parking right by the hotel
Air conditioning & TV in the cabins
Secure lockable rooms
Easy check-in via the hotel bar staff
It’s comfortable, but still has that slightly rustic, “back-of-the-pub” charm that fits Luggate perfectly.
